How do I decide if therapy is right for me?

Choosing to access therapy is a decision that many people consider when they are going through difficult experiences or when they find they are still processing past painful experiences.

Understandably, a person may feel apprehensive about speaking to a stranger regarding such personal concerns, but the nature of ethical therapy is that it is supportive, healing, and safe.

If you are undecided about the benefits of therapy, you can start with a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns and help inform your decision.

Some people find that one therapy session is all they need, whereas others may continue with multiple sessions. Each individual’s needs and personal goals are unique.

What are your operating hours?

Sessions are booked during the daytime from Tuesday through Thursday between 9:45 am and 5:30 pm.

Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm voice & text messages and emails will receive a response within 48 hours (except on weekends and statutory holidays).

What are the payment options?

The cost per visit is $150.00.

For the cost of $150.00 per visit, you receive 50 minutes of dedicated counselling/therapy. The practitioner can then complete the necessary documentation for your records, ensuring a comprehensive and valuable service.

Payment options include debit and credit card transactions, cash, and e-transfer.

If you have coverage for mental health therapy, you can submit your invoice to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

It's recommended to contact your insurance provider before booking to confirm coverage.

Payment is due on the day of your appointment.

What age of clients do you offer services for?

Adults aged 18 years and older and elders 65 years of age and older can book appointments with Rising Strong-Nurse Psychotherapy.

Appointments for Teens (13-17 years) must be booked by a parent or legal guardian.

What can I expect from a typical counselling/therapy session?

Your therapist's primary role is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where you and your experiences will be seen and heard. They will be fully present and invested in you, working to establish a comfortable connection.

This environment will allow you to address the needs you determine are most important for each session.

Active participation is key in therapy. You will be asked about your own goals for the session, and your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best strategies to achieve those goals.

This may involve discussing current issues or revisiting aspects of your childhood and past experiences.

Your therapist will check in with you to ensure you are comfortable with the direction of the session and that you and your needs guide the pace and direction.

By the end of the session, you can expect to have skills to take with you that you will practice as you continue the therapeutic process in your daily life. This is where you can see results as you practice new ways of thinking, connect with your emotions and body sensations, and monitor behaviour.

How important is self-care?

Self-care is a vital part of living that can easily get overlooked because of other competing demands and expectations we are trying to meet.

Self-care is necessary for our health; even the most minor efforts can reap big rewards for us. This could involve sleeping well, walking, sitting with a pet, or enjoying tea or coffee. Small steps towards self-care will be an essential part of therapy as we encourage healthier habits and seek greater enjoyment each day.

Discovering what you value in life will also be an essential piece of the work that we do together. Knowing your core values and learning how to live by them can be a life-changing experience.

Do you offer couples or family therapy/counselling?

While clients are welcome to bring a partner or family member to their session, we do not offer couples or family counselling.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Cancelled or rescheduled appointments require 24 hours' notice before the appointment time to avoid being billed for the session.
